
On March 20, the School of Foreign Languages held the seminar in Conference Room F309.
Prof. Wu Yuanning, an EU-accredited simultaneous interpreter from Central South University, delivered a keynote speech. Dean Wang Jiayi and Deputy Party Secretary Zhu Jie attended, alongside students passionate about interpretation.
At the beginning of the sharing session, Wu Yuanning addressed multiple aspects including the interpreter's role, preparation work, differences between interpretation and translation, and job interviews for interpreters. Drawing from his extensive practical experience, he shared challenges in interpretation work along with corresponding solutions. He provided an in-depth exploration of how to effectively integrate interpretation training with workplace demands, offering students valuable guidance for both learning and practicing interpretation.
Wu Yuanning noted that with the rapid development of interpretation activities, society now has higher professional standards for interpreters. He encouraged students to focus on practical training during their studies, continuously enhancing both their professional competence and adaptability to meet various challenges in their future careers.
After the seminar, students expressed that they had learned a lot. One student said:"Professor Wu's presentation was both comprehensive and accessible, providing profound insights into the interpreting profession. It has significantly enlightened me regarding my future studies and career planning."
Wang Jiayi said that the School of Foreign Languages has always valued student engagement with industry experts, and will continue organizing relevant academic events to invite more specialists. This initiative aims to provide students with platforms for exchange and learning, bridge the gap between academia and practice, and cultivate more outstanding interpreting professionals. He noted that this special seminar not only offered students invaluable learning opportunities, but would also further advance the school's development in both interpreting education and research.
